Frequently Asked Questions
> What is a chip card?
Capital City Bank Visa® Debit Cards now feature an embedded microchip – a silver metal square on the front of the card – that improves security when you make transactions at chip-activated terminals.
> How does chip technology protect my information?
When you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud.
> Where can I use a chip card?
You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa® Debit Cards, at home and around the world, even if the merchant does not have a chip-activated payment terminal.
> Can I still swipe my card to pay?
Yes! If a merchant does not have a chip-activated payment terminal, you can continue to swipe your card to pay. Simply swipe then select CREDIT and sign for your purchase or select DEBIT and enter your PIN.
> Does my chip card work at the ATM?
Yes! You may use your card to get cash, check your balance and more. While Capital City Bank ATMs do have chip card readers, they have not been activated to make chip transactions yet.
> Will I have to pay any fees to use a chip card?
No. There are no additional fees to use a chip card. Standard ATM fees may apply.
*Visa’s Zero Liability Policy covers U.S.-issued cards and does not apply to certain commercial card transactions or any transactions not processed by Visa. You must notify Capital City Bank immediately of any unauthorized use. Ask a banker for specific restrictions, limitations and other details.
Using Your Debit Card with Chip Technology is Simple!
If a chip-activated terminal is available, follow these easy steps:
1. Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal with the chip facing up.
2. Keep your card in the terminal and follow the prompts.
3. Remove your card when prompted and take your receipt.
If a merchant is not yet chip-activated, you can still swipe your card to pay.
