National Phishing Scam: Do Not Give Out Your Debit Card CVV

There is a national phishing scam in progress where a caller is using spoofed caller IDs to appear as though they are calling from your trusted financial institution. They are claiming to be verifying a recent purchase on your debit card and may already have some information including your home address and card number. Their goal is to obtain the 3-digit CVV on the back of your debit card and/or your PIN. If you received a similar call, please report it to us immediately at 888.671.0400 so we can take action to ensure your accounts and information are secure.

Please remember that caller ID information can be faked to make you think that a call is coming from a trusted person or business. Capital City Bank will never call, e-mail or text and ask you to provide sensitive account, card or personal information.

If you’re ever unsure about a call, text or e-mail, remember the following:

  • Never give out personal information such as account numbers, card numbers, Social Security numbers or passwords in response to unexpected calls, texts or e-mails.
  • Always be suspicious of anyone claiming to represent Capital City Bank and is asking you to provide personal information. Hang up and call the phone number on your account statement or our website to verify the authenticity of the request. Capital City Bank will never call, e-mail or text and ask you to provide sensitive account, card or personal information.
  • Use caution if you are being pressured for information immediately. Fraudsters may tell you your account will be closed or your card deactivated in order to create a sense of urgency and scare you into complying.

If you received a suspicious call:

  • Please call us immediately at 888.671.0400, so we can take action to ensure your accounts and information are secure.
